An
issue with standards of production above the common edition. Usually sold
via subscription or issued for presentation only. |
| dentelle |
(From
the French "Lace"). A decorative lace-like pattern on the inside edge of
the covers. Usually gilt. Commonly referred to as "inside dentelles". |
| diced |
A
pattern stamped or ruled onto the binding forming diamond squares. |
| disbound |
The
previous binding has been removed. |

Where

mock-up version of a forthcoming title. Usually containing only a fraction
of the intended contents as to make it portable for the salesmen. Trial
bindings would contain only blank leaves. |

jacket (dust wrapper) |
The
removable paper jacket that wraps around the binding. Usually the first
element to receive wear, hence much prized by perfectionists in certain
collecting fields. |
