edges The extremities of the pages. Head, tail and fore-edge. The fore-edge being the side opposite the spine.
edition This simply means all copies printed form the one setting of the type.
embossed An impression stamped into the surface. Gilt is a common form of highlighting the embossing. Blind stamping is when there is no colour or gold added.
endpapers The double leaves at both ends of the book. There is the paste-down the other is the free endpaper.
engravings Illustrations or plates printed from either a metal plate or wooden block.

ephemera "Lasting only a day". Material that was not intended to last for a long period of time. Includes magazines, broadsides, newspapers, playbills, tickets, promotional matter, etc.
errata Mistakes found after the book has been printed. An errata slip is usually laid in. Also called "corrigenda".
ex-library Formerly the property of a library.
ex-libris See bookplate.
extra A term used to describe a volume with either a lavish binding or an exceptionally large collection of plates.
