Pagination The sequence of numbers used to identify the pages of a book.
Pamphlet A small publication, either wire stitched or sewn, with or without wrappers.

Paperback A book with soft, flexible card covers.
Paper boards A binding of stiff cardboard, usually covered in paper.
Paper wrappers Like a dustjacket but usually attached at the spine.
Parchment The skin of sheep or goat, not tanned but de-greased and dressed like vellum. Used for legal documents and binding.
Paste-downs The half section of the endpaper which has been pasted down to the inside cover.
Perfect binding A method of binding single sheets without sewing. Sheets held together with an adhesive.
Period binding A binding in a style associated with the historical period of the subject.
Photogravure A 19th century process of photographic reproduction using an engraved plate.
  Pictorial cloth The covers of the book have a pictorial scene, usually coloured.
  Pigskin A rugged material for binding.
  Pirate edition An unauthorized edition produced without the copyright holder's permission
  Points Characteristics that can determine priority in an edition.
  Pontille A style of tooling dotted lines and curves on the covers.
  Preliminary pages (prelims) The pages preceeding the actual of text (half title, title, dedication, list of contents, etc.).
  Presentation copy A present from the author or publisher stating so.
  Price clipped Where the original publisher's price has been cut from the dustjacket
  Private press Privately owned and usually small operations, printing limited editions of fine quality.
  Privately printed A publication for private distribution, paid for by the author, not for general sale.
  Proof Traditionally a printed copy, unbound, used for proofreading. See also galley proof.
  Prospectus A publisher's printed advertisement, usually only a few pages, announcing a forthcoming publication with relevant information.
  Provenance Elements determining the previous ownership.
  Publisher's cloth The original cloth binding as issued by the publisher.
